He name was Edward Flanagan.
Do you have any information about him. From what I read in your article the Inn did fairly well in the 1930’s.

Comment on Post Office – Corning IA by Nancy Bustle https://livingnewdeal.org/projects/post-office-corning-ia/#comment-647573 Wed, 14 Dec 2022 19:10:51 +0000 https://livingnewdeal.org/?post_type=projects&p=16348#comment-647573 I was curious about how a postcard dated March 11, 1918 from Corning, IA would’ve been delivered to the Hermitage Hotel in Nashville, TN. The stamp on the vintage postcard isn’t franked with an airplane stamp. The postcard was found in a thrift shop and sold with other cards in a bundle. The Hermitage Hotel is an opulent building in downtown Nashville.

Thank you,
Nancy Bustle

Comment on A Firebreak Runs Through It by Lookout Ranch https://livingnewdeal.org/a-firebreak-runs-through-it/#comment-647569 Wed, 14 Dec 2022 01:17:10 +0000 https://livingnewdeal.org/?p=118221#comment-647569 I’ve lived in the foothills all my life and always wondered about the prevalence of roads named Ponderosa Way up and down the Sierra. I had a theory that it had been a contiguous Gold Rush era road, but I could never find anything on it. When I mentioned my theory, people would tell me it was probably just a coincidence that there are all these Ponderosa Way roads up and down the Sierra. Today, seeing something about Ponderosa Way in Tehama County, I googled ‘Ponderosa Way California,’ and all these stories about the CCC project came up. So now I know. Thank you, a piece of California history is filled in for me.

Comment on Freeport and 4th Underpass – Sacramento CA by Fred https://livingnewdeal.org/projects/freeport-and-4th-underpass-sacramento-ca/#comment-647562 Tue, 13 Dec 2022 03:01:46 +0000 https://livingnewdeal.org/projects/freeport-and-4th-underpass-sacramento-ca/#comment-647562 Before the mid 1980’s this tunnel was filled in. You could see the concrete walls but the tunnel was filled in.
The photo is facing east not south. The railway box visible in the picture still exists and can be seen in Google maps street view.
The WPA also built CK McClatchy Senior High School about 0.2 miles whose students would have used this tunnel.
My guess is the tunnel was removed when the light rail station was built just south of it.
When the Western Pacific Railroad Road yard was in operation the trains would move for back and forth blocking this intersection for 10-15 minutes at a time.

Comment on Freeport and 4th Underpass – Sacramento CA by Michael Vickers https://livingnewdeal.org/projects/freeport-and-4th-underpass-sacramento-ca/#comment-647554 Sun, 11 Dec 2022 22:39:32 +0000 https://livingnewdeal.org/projects/freeport-and-4th-underpass-sacramento-ca/#comment-647554 I believe the picture was taken from the south facing the north. Freeport Blvd would be just to the left and 4th Ave through the tunnel. Based on some aerial photos it looks like it was filled in by 1981, but still open in 1971. It was definitely filled in by the early 1990’s.

Comment on Phoenix College Buildings and Murals – Phoenix AZ by Gordon Jesse https://livingnewdeal.org/projects/phoenix-college-phoenix-az/#comment-647549 Sun, 11 Dec 2022 04:34:55 +0000 https://livingnewdeal.org/?post_type=projects&p=7384#comment-647549 A well-known bit of trivia about the WPA buildings at Phoenix College is that the entire Liberal Arts classroom building (the building on the west) was oriented 180 degrees wrong. Both the Science Building (the matching classroom building on the east) face the same way: west. The Liberal Arts Building was supposed to face east so that the two buildings would face each other. This is evident from the facade of the building and the orientation of the major stairs inside the building. This was pointed-out to me by John Paul, theater faculty from 1948 until 1982.
